Great lands stretching endlessly. Where be the bonds that bind the free. All the world was made for me!" ... Voltaire OK, so he is a Frenchman, but Voltaire's words express the fierce rugged independent spirit of Texans. At Do It In Texas we record personal travels and adventures in the great state of Texas. at the West Texas Blog. WEST OF THE
PECOS
is a portal page covering
west Texas as well as parts of Northern
Mexico and New Mexico.
The image is of the Pecos River near Sheffield in the wintertime. By
the way, In September of 2007 we recently traveled to Canyon Texas via a circuitous route. Might as well go by Carlsbad Caverns National Park, Roswell, New Mexico and the eastern plains of New Mexico on our way to the Texas Panhandle. These blooms were photographed in Palo Duro Canyon near Canyon and Amarillo in the Texas Panhandle. The Panhandle is a very different region of the state indeed. From Roswell northeast to Clovis, Portales, and on to Canyon Texas (near Amarillo) and then again south to the Permian Basin south of Lamesa we witnessed seemingly endless portions of the southern plains. I was very impressed with Herford Texas, Canyon, including Palo Duro Canyon State Park, and Happy Texas. Look soon for pages celebrating the Texas Panhandle Region. ![]() TEXAS HUNTING & FISHING Whitetail deer live in all regions of Texas although whitetails are scarcer in the more arid parts of West Texas, especially the where Mule Deer predominate (i.e. the lower elevations of the Chihuahuan Desert). Although whitetails are numerous in the counties comprising the Edward's Plateau including Crockett Co., parts of Terrell County, and eastern Pecos County, they become less numerous to the south and west. I learned something researching this article. Whitetail deer and mule deer sometimes interbreed where their ranges overlap. |
