Texas Art
&
Culture
This page is
devoted to the art
and culture of
Texas and to Texas artists of all varieties. Your suggestions and
contributions are needed. Original fiction and digital art will be
reviewed for publication on this site. I
am no art critic, just a fan, therefore I will make good use of
established links on this page. Culture in the anthropological
sense is anything reflective of the activities of people
(read Texans).
We love festivals, art shows, chili and BBQ
cookoffs, craft shows and
the like. Fortunately there is a great Texas site that will allow you
to find these by type, region, or month. This site is called (place
TourTexas.com link). This year we enjoyed Fort Stockton's Cowboy Days,
an all day
event featuring such festivities as rodeo, clowns, arts & crafts
and Bar-B-Q. The
9th
Annual Big Bend Ride for Trails was held on October 10-15th at
Terlingua/Study Butte. Folks had fun in Del Rio on
October 21-22, participating in the Fiesta de
Amistad Parade and Arts & Crafts Fair.
41st Annual Terlingua Texas Chili Cookoff
The 41st
Annual Terlingua Chili Cookoff was held recently. This
shot is only part of the party in this remote area west of Big Bend
National Park. Don't count on getting a room in Study Butte unless you
reserve well in advance. The Terlingua Chili Cookoff is one of the
largest, most popular, and possibly one of the rowdiest in the West
Texas region. It is held annually at several sites on FM 170
approximately 7.5 miles west of the junction of TX118 and FM 170.
For more information call 432-371-2595.
The Chili Cookoff is attended by bikers, students from Sul Ross
University in Alpine and by most of the law enforcement officials in
the area. Don't plan on driving if you are drinking. If the jail in
Alpine gets full a tempory one is created in Study Butte. Most folks
camp and walk where the music and good smells originate. Sometimes
things get "plum western".

we find the affiliate advertiser below a great resource to rent movies.

Texas Musicians
Texas has been the birthplace or
home of many musicians of varying musical styles. Some of these to be
featured include the King
of Texas Swing, Bob Wills,
George Jones, Willie Nelson, Janis Joplin, Tanya Tucker and George
Straight.
This is a good link for a history of "Texas Swing" that eventually
became mistakenly called "Western Swing". It covers Bob Wills, the
Brown brothers and the
still hot fiddllin Johnny Gimble. It is the
home page of the Texas
Swing Music Festival.

Original Fiction by the Webmaster
Below is a story based on the historical Glen
Springs Raid that
occurred in 1916. It is unfinished. I am looking for someone to
help me finish this tale as a partner and joint author. In the meantime
